Friends Of Allison, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation established in 1989 in accordance with IRS section 501(c)(3) guidelines. Our mission is to provide funding for Cancer research and to recruit potential bone marrow donors into the National Marrow Donor Program registry. The National Marrow Donor Program, established in 1987 provides a central computerized registry of people willing to donate bone marrow to victims of Leukemia and other blood disorders. Each year more then 30,000 people are diagnosed with fatal blood disorders. Many die because of a lack of a compatible marrow donor. Only 30 percent of these patients have a compatible family donor. The remaining people must rely on finding an unrelated marrow donor. For many of these Leukemia victims a bone marrow transplant offers the likelihood of a complete cure from an otherwise terminal disease. Friends Of Allison has added 90,000 potential donors into the National Marrow Donor Program. Our donor drives have resulted in approximately 400 matches for other Cancer victims - giving them a second chance at life. We have held over 600 donor drives from the United States to Canada and from Israel to South Africa. The people we test come from all walks of life and from all racial and ethnic groups. No one is turned away from our donor testings because of an inability or unwillingness to pay his or her test costs.
